How to Hire a DJ for a House Party in London
A house party with a proper DJ is a different experience entirely. The living room becomes a dance floor. The transitions keep the energy moving. Nobody has to argue over the aux cord.
In London, finding a house party DJ is easy. Finding the right one takes a bit of thought.
Match the genre to your crowd
This matters more than budget, equipment, or anything else. If your friends are into Afrobeats and amapiano, a deep house DJ will empty the room. If you want mellow vibes for a dinner-into-drinks evening, a drum and bass DJ is the wrong call.
Common genre picks for London house parties:
- R&B, hip-hop, Afrobeats — the default for 20s and 30s birthday parties
- House and disco — for the crowd that goes to Peckham rooftops
- Tech house — if your mates are into the club scene
- Open format — mixed crowd, mixed ages, the DJ reads the room
- Reggaeton and Latin — high-energy, gets everyone moving
Listen to actual mixes before you book. On ORDO, every DJ has music linked on their profile.

The equipment question
Most house parties do not need a full club PA system. A quality portable speaker (JBL PartyBox, QSC K12.2, or similar) fills a living room easily.
Key question to ask the DJ: "Do you bring speakers or do I need to provide them?" Some DJs include a portable rig. Others bring just their controller and headphones. Clarify before booking.
Neighbour considerations. London flats have thin walls. If you are in a terraced house or flat, keep the sub-bass reasonable. A good DJ knows how to deliver energy without shaking the building. Tell them about your noise situation upfront.
Practical setup
Clear space. Push the sofa and coffee table aside. Even a 2x3 metre area is enough for a dance floor. People will fill it.
Power. The DJ needs one or two power outlets. Have an extension lead ready. Test it with a hairdryer first — you do not want the circuit tripping at midnight.
Position. A table in the corner, ideally near an outlet, facing the room. The DJ does not need much space.
Lighting. Even one or two LED colour-changing bulbs (Philips Hue or similar) transform the atmosphere. You do not need a fog machine.
Finding the right DJ
Browse DJs on ORDO. Filter by genre and city. Listen to a mix. If you like what you hear, send a booking request. Most DJs respond within 24 hours.
A good house party DJ costs less than a night out for two and makes your party the one people actually remember.
